ABBYY partner with Arsenal Women to offer AI solutions

Digital solutions provider ABBYY becomes Arsenal Women’s first official intelligent automation partner to offer expertise in business transformation

ABBYY has announced a partnership with Arsenal Women in order to improve experiences for Arsenal supporters worldwide.

The partnership will involve implementing ABBYY solutions across the club to streamline tasks and improve efficiencies as a result. In addition, the partnership will involve projects for local communities focusing on technology education and career development as part of a shared mission to lead change with purpose.

Over its 30-year history, ABBYY has helped more than 10,000 companies worldwide to transform business-critical data into actionable outcomes. Its technology works to read and understand data from documents, eliminating repetitive processes and freeing up valuable time for human workforces.

AI and its potential to revolutionise women’s sport worldwide

Perceptions of women’s sport, or women’s football in particular, have changed throughout 2023 given the more widespread coverage that the UEFA European Women's Championship in 2022 and the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 received. In particular, VAR has become more widely used in women’s football, having been introduced to the World Cup in 2019.

More generally, sports are starting to use AI more frequently to assist game coverage and improve spectator experience. Wimbledon in particular adopted AI-powered commentary in a significant milestone that combined advanced technology with traditional sports coverage. The sporting event’s transparency ensured that viewers were aware of when human commentators were speaking or when AI algorithms provided insights.

ABBYY and Arsenal are both recognised leaders in their fields and through this partnership aim to redefine what it takes to change the game through innovation. The partnership aims to leverage the power of AI to deliver improved experiences to Arsenal supporters and make a positive impact in the community as a result.

Ulf Persson, CEO at ABBYY, comments: “We are excited to become Arsenal Women’s Official Intelligent Automation Partner. Innovators in our fields, ABBYY and Arsenal Women join forces with a common goal to make a lasting positive impact. We believe that our strong alignment on values will bring new meaning to leading with a purpose. We look forward to changing the game with this iconic team.”

A refined focus on young people in sport

The company will continue to work with Arsenal to implement AI solutions across the club to streamline and optimise tasks such as document processing. They will also collaborate on sport, social and education programmes focused on technology education, career development and aim to positively impact local young people.

They will also partner on a global campaign, “Game Changers,” to demonstrate what is possible when you redefine the future through innovation and collaboration. ABBYY will also be Arsenal Women’s Match Day Presenting Partner and have a visual presence at Arsenal Women’s fixtures at Emirates Stadium and Meadow Park.

Arsenal Women are the most successful women’s football team in the UK with 60 trophies and they are the only UK club to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Arsenal Women sold out Emirates Stadium for the first time last season for their UEFA Champions League Semi Final against VfL Wolfsburg and they also broke the Barclays Women's Super League attendance record for the fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.

Yesterday (1st October 2023), they broke the attendance record again at Emirates stadium, having sold 54,115 tickets for the Arsenal v. Liverpool match.

Juliet Slot, Arsenal’s Chief Commercial Officer, says: “We're delighted to announce ABBYY as the latest partner of Arsenal Women. Our women’s team has a history of setting new standards in the game, and this is yet another sign of our strong commercial position and our potential as a club.

“We are passionate about bringing like-minded, pioneering partners with us on our journey. ABBYY will not only support us with our own digital transformation, but also in continuing to promote sustainable growth in the women’s game.”
