CEO of NVIDIA states AI is a "reinvention of computing"

NVIDIA's Jensen Huang spoke at COMPUTEX conference in Taipei to announce platforms using Generative AI for every industry, to hail a computing revolution

In his first live keynote speech since the pandemic, Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang spoke at the COMPUTEX conference in Taipei to announce platforms that companies can use to "ride a historic wave" of generative AI that is transforming industries.

His speech comes in the wake of Nvidia announcing plenty of new developments, including the company's partnership with ServiceNow to build Generative AI in efforts to transform all aspects of business processes.

The company continues to introduce new generative AI platforms for a wide range of industries, with Huang noting in his speech that “accelerated computing and AI mark a reinvention of computing." 

Jensen Huang: “everyone is a programmer”

As reported by The Financial Times, Huang was born in Tainan, Taiwan, before eventually moving to the United States. This was where he co-founded Nvidia in 1993, after working as a microprocessor designer at Advanced Micro Devices.

The company has since surged to become the world's most valuable listed semiconductor company as a major supplier of chips and computing systems for artificial intelligence. 40,000 large companies and 15,000 startup businesses now use NVIDIA technologies, with 25 million downloads of CUDA software last year alone.

The CEO hailed AI as a computing revolution in his COMPUTEX speech, stating that this is an era in which "everyone is a programmer."

The new DGX GH200 supercomputer, which is said to combine the use of NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips and the NVIDIA NVLink Switch System.

He also stated: "The programming barrier is incredibly low. We have closed the digital divide. Everyone is a programmer now - you just have to say something to the computer.

"The rate of progress, because it's so easy to use, is the reason why it's growing so fast. This is going to touch literally every single industry."

Part of Nvidia's move to stay ahead of the artificial revolution is the announcement of a new supercomputer, DGX GH200. The new class of supercomputer is powered by NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips and the NVIDIA NVLink Switch System, and has been created to enable the development of next-generation models for generative AI language applications, recommender systems and data analytics workloads.

Huang spoke on this development, explaining that “generative AI, large language models and recommender systems are the digital engines of the modern economy.

“DGX GH200 AI supercomputers integrate NVIDIA’s most advanced accelerated computing and networking technologies to expand the frontier of AI.”

DGX GH200 is the first supercomputer to pair the Grace Hopper Superchips with the Nvidia NVLink Switch System, enabling all GPUs in a DGX GH200 system to interconnect and work together as one. Google Cloud, Meta and Microsoft are among the first expected to gain access to the DGX GH200 to explore its capabilities for generative AI workloads.

Continued rapid advancement in the world of computing

The company has also recently revealed very rapid sales growth, where it is on course to becoming the world’s first trillion-dollar semiconductor stock.

Huang continued: “The world’s largest industries make physical things. Building them digitally first can save billions.

"There's no question we're in a new computing era ... Every single computing era you could do different things that weren't possible before, and artificial intelligence certainly qualifies."

Nvidia's chips have helped companies, such as Microsoft, add human-like chat features to search engines such as Bing.

Huang demonstrated what AI could do at the event in Taipei, including getting a programme to write a short pop song praising Nvidia with only a few words of instruction.

He also unveiled additional several new applications, including a partnership with the world's largest advertising group WPP for generative AI-enabled content for digital advertising.

According to the company website, NVIDIA DGX GH200 supercomputers are expected to be available by the end of 2023.
